Mastodon engagement rate calculator
Engagement rate for a public Mastodon account, from the four counters the statuses route returns and the follower count.
What it reads
| Route | GET /api/v1/mastodon/profile |
|---|---|
| Field read | followers_count |
| Surface | the account's own instance (official API, no key) |
| Handle format | **`user@instance`, and the instance is required.** Mastodon is federated: `Gargron` alone identifies nobody, because a different person can hold that name on every server. A handle without an instance is refused with 400 rather than completed with a default server — completing it would return somebody else's profile with `success: true`. The instance must be a public DNS name: IP literals, ports and paths are refused. The handle comes back fully qualified, so the response value is a valid next request. |
| Example | Gargron@mastodon.social |
| Caveat from the source | the account's own instance |
The formula, written out
(likes + replies + reposts + quotes) / followers × 100 per post, and then the mean of that rate across the posts the API returned for the handle. A rate without its formula in view is a number nobody can check.
In the archive
This platform is also a source of the trend archive, and its status there is nunca-coletada — Why HonestHook does not collect Mastodon search data. That page owns what the archive did or did not collect here; this one is only about the API field above.
