Mastodon profile viewer
Read a public Mastodon account on any instance: followers, following, statuses and bio, asked of the account's own instance.
What it reads
| Route | GET /api/v1/mastodon/profile |
|---|---|
| Field read | followers_count |
| Surface | the account's own instance (official API, no key) |
| Handle format | **`user@instance`, and the instance is required.** Mastodon is federated: `Gargron` alone identifies nobody, because a different person can hold that name on every server. A handle without an instance is refused with 400 rather than completed with a default server — completing it would return somebody else's profile with `success: true`. The instance must be a public DNS name: IP literals, ports and paths are refused. The handle comes back fully qualified, so the response value is a valid next request. |
| Example | Gargron@mastodon.social |
| Caveat from the source | the account's own instance |
Measured on 2026-10-02 through our own normalizer, this field came back 382,519 — not null. Source of the measurement: fixture test/fixtures/mastodon/lookup-gargron.json.

In the archive
This platform is also a source of the trend archive, and its status there is nunca-coletada — Why HonestHook does not collect Mastodon search data. That page owns what the archive did or did not collect here; this one is only about the API field above.
