We don't do YouTube. Google explains why better than we could.

Every so often someone asks why YouTube isn't among our platforms. It's the one platform we're asked about most, and the answer is short.

The YouTube Data API documentation describes the subscriberCount field on a channel as “rounded down to three significant figures.”

Read that again, because it's doing more work than it looks.

Three significant figures means a channel with 1,694,698 subscribers reports 1,690,000. 4,698 people, gone — not by our error, not by anyone's scraping, but at the source. Everyone downstream gets the same rounded figure, including every API that resells it.

1,694,698 is a real follower count we captured on 14 September 2026 — the one on our TikTok page. The rounding above is what YouTube's API would do to it.

Why that disqualifies it for us

The whole point of this product is that the number we return is the number the platform publishes. On YouTube, the number the platform publishes is already approximate. We could serve it. We'd just be passing along a figure we know is wrong, under a name that promises otherwise.

There is a second, quieter problem. Rounding doesn't only hide people — it hides change. A channel that grows from 1,694,698 to 1,699,000 reports 1,690,000 on both days. If you're measuring growth, the metric is frozen while the reality moves.

What would change our mind

A precise public source. If YouTube publishes exact subscriber counts, or exposes them through an interface that doesn't round, YouTube goes on the list the same week. Until then it stays off, and this page stays up.

Where we do return exact numbers

Ten platforms publish exact public counts, and we return them as published: Instagram · TikTok · GitHub · Pinterest · Threads · Bluesky · Mastodon · Medium · SoundCloud · Linktree.

TikTok is the clearest case, because the rounded and the exact number sit in the same page — and the official API is closed to commercial use anyway.
