Best YouTube API for channel data
YouTube runs an official Data API, so access is not the problem. The problem is that the number it gives you is already rounded, and most vendors do not say so.
What to require of any vendor here
- Ask whether the subscriber count is exact. It is not: the platform itself rounds it, at the source — so a vendor presenting it as exact is not wrong about the number, it is wrong about what the number is.
- Ask whether it rounds further, or passes the platform's value through. Those are different answers, and only one of them lets you compare two readings.
- Ask about the quota. The official API bills against a daily quota shared across everything a key does, so a vendor reselling it is sharing a ceiling with its other customers — ask what happens on the day it runs out.
Where the number actually lives
We read statistics.subscriberCount from googleapis.com Data API v3 (official, authenticated) — rounded by the platform itself. Handle format: YouTube handle without the `@`: letters, digits, dot, hyphen and underscore, 3 to 30 characters. Legacy usernames and `UC...` channel ids are not accepted here.
Our endpoints for this platform — 1
youtube/channel— Public channel on YouTube, with the exact subscriber count.
Shape, parameters and the errors each one returns are in the endpoint reference.
What the alternatives cost
We do not restate competitor prices here. The vendor pages carry them — 35 of them — each price read on that vendor's own page, with the date we read it. Readings run from 2026-09-05 to 2026-10-03.
A price copied into a second place is a price that will disagree with itself the first time a vendor changes one. Verify on their page before deciding — we are an interested party.
Reading youtube yourself is the part above. Reading it through one call is the part we sell.
